Lemosho Route Day by Day

Day 1: Lemosho Gate to Mti Mkubwa Camp

Elevation: 2,100m to 2,800m
Distance: 7km
Hiking Time: 4 - 6 hours
The trek begins with a drive to Lemosho Gate, where your adventure starts. Trek through the rainforest, filled with rich flora and fauna. Arrive at Mti Mkubwa Camp for an overnight stay.

Day 2: Mti Mkubwa Camp to Shira 1 Camp

Elevation: 2,800m to 3,500m
Distance: 8km
Hiking Time: 5 - 7 hours
Continue through the rainforest and into the moorland zone. Enjoy panoramic views of the mountain as you make your way to Shira 1 Camp, situated on the Shira Plateau, offering incredible vistas of the summit.

The route today takes you across the Shira Plateau, where you’ll be surrounded by vast, open landscapes and spectacular views. You’ll arrive at Shira 2 Camp for the night, with beautiful views of the nearby mountain peaks.

Day 4: Shira 2 Camp to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3,900m to 3,940m
Distance: 10km
Hiking Time: 7 - 8 hours
Today’s trek takes you through the alpine desert zone, with striking views of the mountain. After a steep climb to the Lava Tower (4,600m), you’ll descend to Barranco Camp, located in the Barranco Valley, at the base of the famous Barranco Wall.

Day 7: Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak and Descent to Mweka Camp

Elevation: 4,640m to 5,895m
Distance: 15km
Hiking Time: 12 - 15 hours
